Address Based Population Registration System
Population by urban-rural classification, age group and sex
The table contains annual information on population size by age group, sex and urban-rural classification for Türkiye total as of 2022. Age groups are given in five-year intervals up to 90+. The new urban-rural classification put forward by the European Statistical Office and categorized as "densely populated, intermediate-density and thinly populated" is based on the "Degree of Urbanisation (DEGURBA)". The classification shows the rural-urban class of an area based on population density over 1 km2 population grids. As data sources, Spatial Address Registration System (SARS) and Address Based Population Registration System (ABPRS) dated 31 December were used. According to the classification, densely populated areas are defined as quarters and villages that have at least 50 % of their population living in urban centre grids. Intermediate density areas are quarters and villages that do not meet the criteria of densely populated areas and thinly populated areas. Thinly populated areas are quarters and villages that have more than 50% of their population living in rural grid cells. Following the determination of rural-urban class of quarters and villages, population of provinces and districts according to the new urban-rural classification are obtained through aggregation.
